The primary purpose of the booths is to allow for safe reworking and final finishing of aluminium vehicle components. DTC are to design and construct the booths which are to include an enclosed area (3 sides and roof) with open access to the front. Air flow will be produced by fans situated at the front of the booth pushing air towards the rear extraction system running across the entire width of the rear panel.
Due to the explosive nature of aluminium particulate all external wiring, motors and electrical controls will be uprated to full ATEX certified specifications. The input of air into the bays is an additional feature which will ensure maximum control of air flow throughout the preparation booths.
Further safety measures include: installation of filter replacement warning system and a dedicated enclosure for housing the high-velocity ATEX rated extraction system. Close co-operation with Slovakian certified bodies to facilitate any additional certification and testing procedures will further ensure standards are being met.
The majority of dust will be extracted at source through the use of specific localised on-tool extraction methods. Any excess airborne particles will be handled by the powerful background extraction process.
“We often recommend this dual method of extraction, up to 70% of dust particles can be removed at source which ensures a healthy and safe working environment for the operatives” explained Warwick Binks, Project Manager at Direct Tool Company.
2 x High Velocity ATEX rated Centralised Dust Extraction Systems will also be supplied along with steel powder coated dust pipe work system to avoid static problems. The system will then be fitted out with 16x twin dust/air heads and high quality DA Sanders.
“It’s a very exciting project and we’re thrilled to be a part of this significant development in Nitra. Gestamp share our commitment to providing 100% safe working environments and take health and safety extremely seriously.” Mr Binks added.
